Fresh violence in Myanmar’s Chin pushes more refugees into Mizoram
Scores of people from Myanmar’s Chin state fled the country and took shelter in neighbouring Champhai district of Mizoram early this morning following fresh armed clashes between the local resistance
Scores of people from Myanmar’s Chin state fled the country and took shelter in neighbouring Champhai district of Mizoram early this morning following fresh armed clashes between the local resistance groups and Myanmar military forces.
Myanmar soldiers and Chin National Defense Force (CNDF) exchange gun fire near Khawmawi-Tiau bridge in Chin State’s Falam Township. CNDF claimed that they captured two Myanmar soldiers.
According to Lalmuanpuia, village council president of Zokhawthar, they are hosting at least 7000 refugees from Myanmar’s Chin state at Zokhawthar village. Meanwhile, there is no report on loss of life from both sides till now.
Notably, a year after the Coup, unofficial figures put the number of Myanmar refugees in Mizoram to be over 50,000.
