Mizoram’s Lallianzuala Chhangte wins AIFF Men’s Footballer of the Year Award

The winger made 12 appearances for the national team during the 2022-23 season, scoring two goals and providing one assist.

Known as ‘Mizo Flash’ for his fast pace in Indian football, Mizoram’s Lallianzuala Chhangte has time and again proved his mettle with his extraordinary footballing skills.

Considered to be one of the most important players of Team India, the Blue Tigers, Changte is always appreciated for his skills and vision on the pitch.

An admirer of football greats like Christiano Ronaldo and Frank Lampard, Changgte has won the AIFF Men’s Footballer of the Year award for 2022-23.

He could earn this coveted title on the backdrop of some of his exceptional performances for the national team as well as his club Mumbai City FC. 26-year-old Lallianzuala Chhangte beat the likes of Nandhakumar Sekar and Naorem Mahesh Singh of East Bengal to win the award.

The winger made 12 appearances for the national team during the 2022-23 season, scoring two goals and providing one assist.

The Mizoram player was also the highest scorer among Indians in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-23 season with 10 goals and six assists in 22 appearances. He helped Mumbai make the semi-finals after topping the league stage. He was eighth in the overall ISL scoring charts for the season. Lallianzuala Chhangte became only the second player from Mizoram, after Jeje Lalpekhlua (2016), to win the AIFF Men’s Player of the Year award.

Taking to Twitter, Lallianjuala Chhangte expressed his joy and said,”Words couldn’t describe how happy i am right now 🥹. All praise to my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ”

Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga tweeted,”Warmest Congratulations to Lallianzuala Chhangte a.k.a “Mizo Flash” on winning the prestigious AIFF Men’s Player Of The Year Award (2022-23). Your hard work, determination and perseverance have paid off; and you truly deserve it! Keep Shining for the #Nation.”

Mizoram Sports Minister and owner of Aizawl City FC Robert Romawia Royte also congratulated the young footballer. He tweeted,”Heartiest congratulations Lallianzuala Chhangte – AIFF Men’s Footballer of the year 2022-23.

Born to a teacher in Mizoram’s Lunglei, Lallianzuala Chhangte’s brother CVL Remtluanga is a footballer, who currently plays for the reserve side of Odisha FC.
