At least five persons, including two women, were arrested after heroin drugs worth over Rs 6 crores were seized in Serchhip district of Mizoram.
Acting on a tip-off, officials of the state CID team and Serchhip Police on Friday night recovered the contraband concealed in 103 soap cases in an area between Keitum-Vanlaiphai Road, officials informed.
Reportedly, a total of 1.278 kg of heroin worth Rs 6.39 crore in the international market were recovered from the possession of the arrested accused.
The five persons arrested in connection with the seizure have been booked under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985.
Earlier this month, two persons, one of them a Myanmar national, were arrested for possessing heroin worth over Rs 1.5 crore during operations at two different locations in Mizoram’s Champhai district near the Myanmar border.
Moreover, police seized 314 grams of heroin on the outskirts of Melbuk village in the same district on Tuesday night.
The contraband worth Rs 1.5 crore in the international market was concealed in 23 soap cases, officials informed.
