All the IDPs taking shelter in Mizoram are ethnic Mizo tribal community from Churachandpur district and nearby districts, the officials said.

A review meeting chaired by state home minister Lalchamliana on Thursday discussed about the issue of IDPs taking shelter in the state as well as the efforts being made to evacuate stranded people belonging to Mizoram from Imphal.

State home department officials said that 262 Mizos have been evacuated from Imphal so far and the majority of them are students while some people undergoing training, sick people treated in hospitals at Imphal and travellers were also evacuated.

“Four students from Arunachal Pradesh who were stranded in Churachandpur town were evacuated via Mizoram in accordance with the pleas from the Arunachal Pradesh state government and the students have reached Itanagar safely on Thursday,” officials said.

State Food, Civil Supply and Consumer Affairs department has issued over 800 quintals of rice to feed the IDPs in different district, the meeting was informed.

The meeting appealed to the people not to spread lies and unconfirmed reports through social media as such reports can ignite more violence in the neighbouring state.
