In response to unrest in Bangladesh, Lawngtlai District Magistrate issued an order prohibiting activities from 6PM to 6AM till further orders

The Lawngtlai district administration of Mizoram has issued advisory restricting movement of people and goods within 3 kms of its international border with Bangladesh.

District Magistrate of Mizoram’s Lawngtlai District, Cheemala Siva Gopal Reddy, has issued a strict movement restriction order for the district bordering Bangladesh due to ongoing unrest in the neighbouring country.

For the safety of residents, the order prohibits any movement within 3 kilometers of the Bangladesh and Myanmar borders between 6 PM and 6 AM. This includes individuals, groups, vehicles, and even the grazing of animals. Violators will face penalties under section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023.

The directive, effective immediately and until further notice, aims to ensure the security of the district’s residents. In support of this measure, Mizoram Police have upgraded security along the border and instructed all police stations along the 318-kilometer Bangladesh border to heighten their vigilance.

Furthermore, state police are collaborating closely with Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and the Assam Rifles to maintain stringent surveillance along the Indo-Bangladesh and Indo-Myanmar borders. As of now, there have been no reports of refugee influx from Bangladesh.

This precautionary measure reflects the state’s commitment to safeguarding its citizens.
