Aizawl district has the highest number of legislative assembly constituencies-12.
Results for the Mizoram Assembly elections will be out tomorrow where a neck to neck fight is expected between the ruling MNF and the ZPM.
To ensure hassle free counting of votes, the Aizawl district administration is fully prepared with all elaborate arrangements already in place.
Worth mentioning Aizawl district has the highest number of legislative assembly constituencies-12.
Aizawl DC Najuk Kumar spoke to Northeast Live in details on the preparedness a day ahead of the counting of votes.
DC Nazuk Kumar said, “Our counting is scheduled for tomorrow, it will begin at 8 AM. The preparations have been completed as of now. We have 12 assembly constituencies in Aizawl so 12 counting halls will be there, the counting will be held simultaneously, so that it can be completed on time. We have 12 observers which means 1 observer per counting hall. We have 6 Returning Officers. They will be looking after and will be in charge of the counting procedure. Other than that all our counting staff are prepared and trained properly.
In each counting hall, we will have ranging from 7-14 tables and the EVM strong room is located right next to the counting hall so that there is minimal movement of the machine.”
Speaking about the security arrangements, the Aizawl DC said, “Coming to law and order we have in place 3-tier of security for guarding the counting hall because that is the ECI guideline. So the CAPF will be guarding the most inside part of the building. The local police and the IR Bn will be guarding outside. We will be deploying Executive Magistrates (EM) for all the 3 locations where there will be counting.”
DC Nazuk Kumar also spoke about the venues for counting of votes and said, “For 6 constituencies, counting will take place in DC office, for 4 constituencies counting will take place in 2 Assembly Annexe basements. The third location is Government Aizawl College.
The actual process will start at 5 am, we will be doing the final randomization of the counting staff, 8 AM the counting process will start. First 30 minutes is for postal ballots, there will be 2 tables for counting of postal ballots.”
“Approzimately the ratio is such of the polling stations and tables that we will need 3 rounds (for counting),” the DC added.
The fate of 174 candidates including 16 women candidates will be decided tomorrow. The elections were held on November 7 for the 40-member 9th Mizoram Assembly.
