All operations-landings and takeoffs, have been suspended in Mizoram’s lone Lengpui Airport after a Myanmar Amy Aircraft skidded off the runway even after landing safely this morning. It has been learnt that services at the airport will resume once the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) gives approval.
This has been informed to Northeast Live by Lengpui Airport in charge Amar Nath.
When asked about whether the incident has affected normal landing and takeoff at the airport, Nath said, “See for precautionary measures, no landing and takeoff will be done. DGCA will be deciding after we have a meeting and only then it will be allowed. Otherwise the runway is ok, landing and takeoff can be allowed, but I am not the authority to say like this. For this the DGCA’s submission will be required.”
“For today we cannot expect because DGCA permission will be required. Whenever the DGCA permits, operations will resume,” Nath added.
The airport is connected by flights to Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati and Imphal, and is located at a distance of 32 km from Aizawl.
As per inputs 5 flights were cancelled at Lengpui Airport today. It includes 3 flights of the Alliance Air and 2 of the Indigo Airlines
