Mizoram: Mara ADC polls to be held on May 5
This election will be crucial for the parties in the state ahead of the Mizoram Assembly elections which are due for December 2023.
With just a week left for the Mara Autonomous District Council elections in Mizoram, campaigning has gained momentum with leaders of different parties engaging in a war of words to woo voters.
The Mara ADC in southern Mizoram, which is currently with the BJP, will go to polls on May 5.
Ruling state party Mizo National Front, opposition Congress, BJP are contesting for the 25 seats while the three-year-old Zoram People’s Movement, in its first ever electoral debut in the Autonomous District Councils, is contesting in eight seats.
For ZPM, party leader Lalduhoma is currently campaigning in the ADC.
This election will be crucial for the parties in the state ahead of the Mizoram Assembly elections which are due for December 2023.
Altogether, 85 candidates are in the fray for the 25-seat Mara ADC.
Mizo National Front has fielded candidates for all 25 seats, BJP has fielded 24, Congress 23 and Zoram People’s Movement ZPM has decided to contest in eight seats.
Five independent candidates are also contesting in the polls.
