Mizoram: John Neihlaia sworn-in as the CIC, MangjangamTouthang as IC & Lalsanglura as Lok Ayukta member

John Neihlaia, MangjangamTouthang and Lalsanglura, were sworn-in as Chief Information Commissioner, Information Commissioner and Member of the state LokAyukta, respectively on Thursday.

Mizoram Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati administered the oaths of office to the newly appointed three persons in their respective designations in a ceremony held at the Durbar Hall of Aizawl Raj Bhavan.

Chief Minister Zoramthanga, Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia, Cabinet Ministers, Ministers of State attended the swearing-in ceremony. Senior officers of the State Government were also present in the function.

A distinguished former police officer, John Neihlaia, an IPS officer from the 2001 batch, recently concluded his tenure as the Inspector General of Police at the state Police Headquarters.

His remarkable career has been marked by notable achievements, notably in his pivotal role in quelling the insurgency in Mizoram led by the Hmar People’s Convention during the 1980s. He also gained recognition for serving as the investigating officer in the corruption case involving former Chief Minister LalThanhawla.

Neihlaia assumes the role previously held by former Chief Secretary Lalnunmawia Chuaungo, who resigned from the position of State Chief Information Commissioner on June 19 to join the Congress party.

Mangjangam Touthang brings a wealth of experience to the role, having served as the head of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) and the Doordarshan Kendra (DDK) in Mizoram for several years. Additionally, he briefly held the position of the head of AIR Aizawl station during his distinguished career.

Lalsanglura, inducted as member of the LokAyukta, is Mizoram Police Service (MPS) officer who has served as SP of the state Anti-Corruption Bureau for a long time.

His expertise as an officer of the ACB will come in handy as the state LokAyukta is yet to have an investigation wing and prosecution wing due to financial crunch being faced by the state government.
