Four persons, including a 11-year-old child travelling in a pickup truck were killed when the vehicle fell into a gorge at a place near Thingfal village in south Mizoram’s Lunglei district on Sunday.
Police reports said that the accident occurred in the early morning hours and police suspect the accident happened probably because the driver John (21) had dozed off.
Others who died in the mishap were Lalbahadur (25), Lalremtluanga (21) and Eliza (11) all belonging to Sabualtlang village in southernmost Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district.
The vehicle rolled down to over 250 metres killing all the four people on the spot.

Villagers of Thingfal and Thingkahvilages and Lawngtlai town went to the place of occurrence and engaged in rescue operations to recover the bodies.
Rescue workers recovered all the bodies by Sunday evening. The body of Eliza was retrieved last as it was trapped near a steep ravine.
The bodies were taken to the Thingkah community hall where a farewell function would be held before being sent for post-mortem.
