In a mysterious incident, a dead body of a 30-year-old lady was allegedly recovered from a hotel elevator shaft in Mizoram’s Aizawl.

The deceased has been identified as Vanlalhmangaihzuali Fanai who is a resident of Lunglei in south Mizoram and worked as a Muster Roll at P&E revenue Sub-division Lunglei.

Police officials suspected that the victim fell into the elevator shaft of the hotel from a malfunctioning elevator door and was killed.

The woman went missing from the hotel six days ago after she arrived with her boyfriend on April 13 to appear for a competitive examination.

On April 14, her boyfriend lodged a missing complaint at Aizawl Police Station and an investigation was initiated based on the complaint.

As per preliminary inquiry, it is suspected that the woman fell into the shaft from a malfunctioning elevator door in the hotel lobby. The door was supposed to be shut when the elevator was not on that floor, he said.

Police have taken the boyfriend into custody for further interrogation. Meanwhile, the victim’s family alleged that Fanai was murdered.

Sources claimed that the body of the deceased will be taken to her hometown after the post-mortem concludes.
