MNF Chief and Chief Minister Zoramthanga will be contesting the polls from the Aizawl East -1 seat
The Mizo National Front (MNF) will contest in all the 40 assembly seats in the upcoming assembly elections likely to be held by the end of this year. As per inputs, the party in power has also finalized the list of candidates who will be contesting the elections.
All the 28 sitting MLAS of the MNF, except Mizoram Legislative Assembly Speaker Lalrinliana Sailo, Home Minister Lalchamliana, will be again in the fray in the coming assembly polls.
The MNF has finalized the candidates for all the 39, but is yet to take call on the Chalfilh constituency which is represented by Speaker Sailo. The name of the candidate is likely to be announced by the party in a few days.
Among the key candidates include Chief Minister Zoramthanga who will try to retain his Aizawl East – I seat, while Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia will be fighting the polls from Tuichang assembly constituency.
Power Minister R. Lalzirliana, elected from Tawi seat in the last assembly elections will try his fortune from Aizawl North – I.
Minister of State for Sports Robert Romawia Royte, who was elected for the first time from Aizawl East – II in 2018, will be contesting this time from the Hachhek assembly constituency bordering Tripura.
On the other hand in a significant development , the sitting Congress MLA from Palak KT Rokhaw will be contesting as an MNF candidate from the same seat.
However the MNF is yet to make an official announcement.
Inputs suggest that Sailo will not be given a ticket as the party leadership and workers are unhappy with the statement he made saying that he wanted the MNF to join or merge with the BJP. Not only this another factor is that Lalrinliana Sailo had levelled serious allegations against Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia that over Rs 100 lakh was missing in one of the departments under the latter.
Home Minister Lalchamliana has announced his intention not to contest the elections as he said that he will make room for younger people. Lalremruata Chhangte will contest from Hrangturzo seat, which was won by Lalchamliana in 2018 polls.
