In order to boost cross-border trade between India and Bangladesh, the Commerce Minister of the neighboring country is on a 3-day visit to Mizoram.

Bangladesh Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi who arrived in Aizawl on Friday was received by Mizoram Commerce and Industries Minister Dr R Lalthangliana and other officials at the Lengpui airport.

On Bangladesh Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi’s agenda is the joint inspection of a few possible sites for border trade markets or haats between Mizoram and Bangladesh along the Indo-Bangladesh border.

During his 3-day tour, the Bangladesh Commerce Minister will also be visiting the proposed border haat at Silsury village in Mamit district and inspecting an integrated check post at Kawrpuichhuah in Lunglei district along with Lalthangliana on Saturday. Munshi is also scheduled to hold talks with Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga and address a press conference before he leaves for Kolkata on Monday.

It may be mentioned here that Mizoram shares a 318-km long international border with Bangladesh and at least four border haats are planned to be set up along the Mizoram-Bangladesh border as per plans.
