Assam Floods: Mizoram resorts to fuel rationing
To avoid panic buying, the government has put a cap of 5 liters for two-wheelers and 10 liters for light motor vehicles.
The supply of essential commodities has been hit badly in the hill state of Mizoram due to the floods and landslides in Assam forcing the state government to push for the supply of essentials from Bangladesh via Tripura.
Moreover, with a shortage of fuel in the state, the government has decided to ration the purchase of petrol and diesel for two-wheelers and light motor vehicles.
To avoid panic buying, the government has put a cap of 5 liters for two-wheelers and 10 liters for light motor vehicles.
This was informed by state food, civil supplies, and consumer affairs Minister K Lalrinliana.
Lalrinliana said that the restrictions were imposed on the sale of petrol to ensure equal distribution and ensure that the filling stations do not run dry.
The state government also urged people not to indulge in panic buying as the oil supply is still coming in from Assam and the state government is looking for an alternative to bring in more supplies.
Meanwhile, it was also made clear that until the rail tracks are repaired, fuel distribution would have to be rationed.
