Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli, the Vatican City Ambassador to India and Nepal, paid a visit to the St. Joseph the Worker Church in Kolasib, near the Mizoram-Assam border, on Saturday.
Archbishop Girelli, who was on a three-day visit to the Aizawl Diocese, was greeted with cultural dances and gifts at the church by a large congregation.
At the congregation, which was chaired by the parish priest, Reverend Father Andrew Lalbiakfela, and attended by Kolasib district deputy commissioner John L.T. Sanga and other invitees, the archbishop was accompanied by the most Reverend Stephen Rotluanga, Bishop of Aizawl Diocese.
Addressing the congregation, he said that Saturday is the birthday of Pope Francis and shared important messages from Pope Francis, like unity, love, and brotherhood.
He also emphasised the importance of safeguarding all of creation, including natural resources and the environment.
In a discussion with the young people who are preparing to become clerics, the archbishop said that bigger services can be rendered outside the church and wished them luck in their further endeavors.
