Mizoram: Zoram People’s Movement sweeps Lunglei Municipal Council polls; MNF draws a blank

Mizoram’s main opposition party the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) has swept the Lunglei Municipal Council (LMC) polls by winning all 11 seats.
This is the first local body poll in which the ZPM won majority after it was formed in 2017. The elections for the civic body was held on March 29.
The ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) and the Congress which contested all the 11 wards drew blank while the BJP, which contested 9 wards remained in the 4th position in all the 9 wards.
The civic polls were held for the first time in this Mizoram’s southern town where the LMC was inaugurated early this year to become the second urban local body in the state after the Aizawl Municipal Corporation.
While ZPM secured 49.31 per cent vote share, Congress- 20 per cent and BJP managed to secure only 0.75 per cent of the total votes polled.
