Mizo girl Hmangaihzuali receives nearly Rs 2.8 crore for pursuing studies in AUW, Dhaka

Mizoram’s Hmangaihzuali, daughter of a small landholding farmer is all set to pursue studies at the prestigious Asian University for Women (AUW) in Dhaka, Bangladesh, after receiving a scholarship of $375,000 ( equivalent to nearly Rs. 2.8 crore).

Hmangaihzuali, hailing from a humble background, is one of the five recipients of a scholarship from Syngenta, a global agricultural firm based in the US.

The stipend shall cover her tuition, boarding, health coverage, supplies for five years. The other four recipients of the scholarship are all from Bangladesh.

A resident of Mizoram’s Thingsul, Hmangaihzuali shall pursue an undergraduate course in economics, politics, philosophy and public policy in AUW.

Hmangaihzuali expressed happiness upon receiving the scholarship stating that it has made her dream of going to a university possible.

Syngenta awards scholarships to interested students from farm-based communities after assessing their academic performance and leadership capabilities.

Students are also given an opportunity to work as an intern with the agri-based firm.

The Asian University for Women has more than 900 students from nearly 19 countries of Asia with two pre-collegiate programs and a three-year undergraduate programme.
