Who will be TMC’s CM candidate in Meghalaya? Party likely to announce candidate list by Dec 25

The Trinamool Congress in Meghalaya is all geared for the 2023 elections. While TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee sounded the poll bugle for the party in the poll bound state days ago, the party today said that it is all set to announce it’s candidate list (if not complete but most of it) by December 25.

Briefing newspersons, Meghalaya TMC president Charles Pyngrope pointed out that the election Code of Conduct will come into effect from January first week, and that it is necessary for every party not to delay the announcement of candidates.

But who will be the TMC’s face for the Chief Minister’s post? When asked if the party will fix any name as the Chief Ministerial candidate, Pyngrope said that no such decision has been taken as of now.

The Meghalaya TMC chief also clarified on specualtions doing the rounds that Mukul Sangma will be the TMC’s Chief Ministerial candidate. Charles Pyngrope quoting Abhishek Banerjee, who was on a campaing trail alongwith Mamata, said that the TMC general secretary had only mentioned about ‘A Son of the Soil’ becoming the Chief Minister. Pyngrope in this regard said, “We are all Son of the Soil. He did not mention any name. It was misinterpreted by the press because I was sitting next to Abhishek Banerjee, our TMC national general secretary.”

However, Charles Pyngrope feels that they should have a face before the elections as a Chief Ministerial candidate, it can be the call of the party. The Meghalaya TMC president added none of the state leadership have any objection to that.

Pyngrope said that the affairs of the state will be run by the party in the state itself and not by any outsider, while he referred to the fact that in the prevalent situation the TMC has been referred to a party from Bengal.

The Meghalaya TMC president also said that Mamata Banerjee has left it on the state leadership to decide as to who will be the Chief Ministerial candidate.

Charles Pyngrope also ruled out that there will be any leadership issues as he said that his sole objective is to guide the party and take it forward. He believes that all the party leaders from different will come together and ensure the party’s victory in the upcoming assembly elections in the state.
