The first day of the Meghalaya Assembly’s budget session witnessed stormy scenes after VPP MLAs objected to Governor Phagu Chauhan giving the opening address in Hindi.
VPP MLA Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit raised objections to the governor making the speech in Hindi, saying that Hindi is not native to the state.
This was followed by a war of words between Basaiawmoit and Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, as the latter defended the governor’s speech in Hindi.
