The Shillong Press Club has condemned the violence that erupted in Meghalaya capital on Friday.
The Media fraternity also condemned the assault on the public and the members of the press by the miscreants.
The Press Club also warned that such trouble mongers and mischievous attempts to disturb public peace will not go unnoticed.
The Shillong Press club also urged the civil administration and police to treat the incident with upmost seriousness and deal with it in accordance to the law.
It may be mentioned that a rally to protest alleged rampant unemployment in Meghalaya turned violent when some youths taking part in the procession conducted by pressure group the Federation of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo People assaulted passersby in Shillong creating panic in the city.
Videos doing rounds on social media show those taking part in the rally assaulting people who ran for shelter soon after.

Ironically, the few constables and police officers who were present at the scene of the incident could not do anything to stop the assaulters.
The rally that started from Motphran area of the city concluded at the Fire Brigade ground.
However, as it proceeded towards the Malki and Dhanketi areas, the rally turned violent with protesters targetting passersby.
Traffic along the main route in the city came to a standstill as the rally proceeded from Mothphran.
What is also unfortunate is that a Reporter of a Khasi Daily was also assaulted by the FKJGP members.
As condemnations pour in, questions are being raised as to why the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner did not take proper measures to prevent the untoward incident.
Meanwhile, authorities maintained that they did not anticipate the rally to turn violent.
