CM Sangma also informed that he requested the Finance Minister to aid and extend support in the establishment of growth hubs

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has sanctioned Rs 2,500 crores for the development of new roads in Meghalaya under the Externally Aided Projects (EAP), Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said on Monday.

Taking to X, CM Sangma wrote, “”Had a fruitful meeting with Hon’ble Union Minister Smt. @nsitharaman ji. Expressed my gratitude for sanctioning new roads under the Externally Aided Projects (EAP) worth ₹2500 Cr (sic).”

Furthermore, CM Sangma also informed that he requested the Finance Minister to aid and extend support in the establishment of growth hubs in New Shillong and other areas.

“Also requested her support for establishing growth hubs in New Shillong and other areas,” he stated.
This new allocation comes after the Centre had earlier approved Rs 2000 crore for development of roads and logistics infrastructure under second phase of the Meghalaya Integrated Transport Project (MITP).

The MITP, which is also known as Meghalaya Economic Growth Accelerator (MEGA) Corridor project is significant initiative aimed at improving the state’s transport infrastructure.

“The first phase of MITP is being implemented with a support of Rs 880 crore from the World Bank. Under the project, several critical roads like Baejendoba-Resubelpara-Mendipathar-Damra, Shillong–Diengpasoh and Pasyih–Garampani are being implemented,” an official statement said, adding that the successful implementation of the project had been commended by both the World Bank and the Union ministry of finance.

Under the second phase of the MITP (MEGA Corridor) project, more than 300km of double-lane climate resilient roads linking major growth centres like Shillong, Tura, Jowai and Dawki will be developed. Special emphasis will be laid on urban roads connecting New Shillong Administrative City and New Shillong Knowledge City, thereby transforming Shillong as a regional growth centre, the statement released on Friday said.
