Tamil TT player’s death in Meghalaya: Condolences pour in for Vishwa Deenadayalan

Vishwa Deenadayalan, the 18-year-old table tennis player from Tamil Nadu lost his life in a road accident in Shillong on Sunday after his taxi was hit by a 12-wheeler trailer coming from the opposite direction.

Union Minister of Law and Order and Arunachal MP Kiren Rijiju and Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma have posted tweets offering condolences to the family of the late teenager.

Kiren Rijiju, in his tweet wrote; “Very sad to learn that young Table Tennis player from Tamil Nadu, Deenadayalan Vishwa died in an accident at Ri-Bhoi in Meghalaya while on his way to Shillong to participate in the 83rd Senior National Table Tennis Championship. My deepest condolences to his family. RIP”

Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma also posted a tweet stating, “Saddened to learn that Tamil Nadu paddler, Deenadayalan Vishwa passed away after an accident in Ri Bhoi District while on his way to Shillong to participate in the 83rd Senior National Table Tennis Championship in our State.”

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin have also offered condolences to the family of the deceased. He wrote: “Shocked beyond words to hear about the heartbreaking & untimely demise of our young, promising table tennis player Vishwa Deenadayalan. He was a legend-in-making and it pains me that he left us too soon. I offer my deepest condolences to his family, friends & sports fraternity.”

Minister of Information and Broadcasting of India, Anurag Thakur, wrote “Heartbreaking to learn that Tamil Nadu paddler, Deenadayalan Vishwa passed away in an accident in Ri Bhoi District. He was on his way to Shillong to participate in the 83rd Senior National Table Tennis Championship. Sincere condolences to his family & friends,” said the tweet.

The incident occurred on Sunday when Vishwa and three other Tamil Nadu Tennis players were on their way in a tourist taxi from Guwahati airport to Shillong to take part in the 83rd Senior National Table Tennis Championship.

The other injured victims were identified as Ramesh Santosh Kumar, Abhinash Prasannaji Srinivasan and Kishore Kumar, who suffered severe injuries but have been declared stable by doctors.

The accident took place when a 12-wheeler trailer coming from the opposite direction ploughed through the road divider and hit the taxi at Shangbangla, just after the Umily check post, and plunged into a gorge.

The taxi driver died on spot while, Vishwa was rushed to hospital. Later, the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences declared the table tennis player as brought dead.

Vishwa, a promising player with several national ranking titles and international medals to his credit, was to represent India at the WTT Youth Contender at Linz, Austria, from April 27.
