Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Monday inaugurated the 2nd edition of the Shillong Literary Festival at Wards Lake. The Literary Festival is a part of the Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival.
Addressing the event, CM Conrad Sangma said that the main purpose of organising such events are to inspire the young budding authors and the young students to ensure that the habit of reading and the interest into literature grows.
“Inaugurated the 2nd Edition of the Shillong Literary Festival as part of the #ShillongCherryBlossomFestival at Wards Lake. Wards Lake, coloured in #CherryBlossom pink this year will add to the beautiful discussions that will take place at the Literary Festival,” CM Sangma tweeted.
The Chief Minister hopes that engaging in interactive sessions with authors and getting to know them in person can actually inspire students and young people to become writers or at least inspire a greater interest in reading and literature in general.
The 3-day Shillong Literary Festival will continue till November 26, 2022.
Renowned authors, poets and writers from all the northeastern states and the rest of the nation will be sharing the stage at the Festival.
Besides the literary stage, food and beverage stalls, bookshops, and handicraft stalls have also been set up.
After a slow restart in 2020 due to COVID-19, the annual Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival plans to make a big comeback this year. The Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival takes place in Polo Ground, but smaller events spread to other parts of the city.
