Rs 3 lakh each for culture researchers: Meghalaya CM at Monolith Fest

Attending the finale of the 3-day festival as the chief guest, CM Sangma said that the festival “is a celebration of our rich cultural heritage."

As the curtains drew on the much-celebrated 3rd Monolith Festival, organized by the Khasi Autonomous District Council (KHADC), the enchanting Khasi Heritage Village witnessed the grand finale of this cultural extravaganza on Saturday.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma was the Chief Guest.

Addressing the gathering, Sangma said under the leadership of Minister Art and Culture Paul Lyngdoh, the state Government will be starting a programme called CM’s research scholarship programme where Rs 3 lakh per researcher and scholar, and up to 50 researcher every year will be funded by the Government of Meghalaya to do research on the culture, and different historic aspects of the State.
The Chief Minister also said that a committee will also be formed, where they will screen different applicants who will work hand in hand with the Government to do research.
In a post on X, the Meghalaya CM said, “Attended the Monolith Festival at the Khasi Heritage Village in Mawphlang. The festival is a celebration of our rich cultural heritage.
Such festival allows us to appreciate our traditions and remind us to hold on to our roots as we move forward. Our identify is our pride and we shall continue to promote events that demonstrates our heritage.”

In a separate post, CM Conrad Sangma said, “Appreciate that KHADC organised the event in collaboration with Meghalaya Tourism to showcase the culture of the Khasi tribe to the rest of the world.”

Reflecting on the significance of the Monolith Festival, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma shared his thoughts saying that any community is differentiated by its Culture and identity. He stated that it is the sole duty as Govt to protect, preserve and promote aspects of cultural heritage.

The Monolith Festival emerges as a spirited homage, passionately dedicated to commemorating the deep-seated cultural heritage of the Khasi tribe. It serves as an energetic stage, not only honoring the traditions laid down by the forefathers but also providing a vibrant platform for local artisans, craftsmen, and performers to showcase their exceptional talents.
