Rain trigger landslides in Meghalaya, 2 killed amid widespread damages

Incessant rains since the last two days triggered multiple landslides in Meghlaya claiming at least 2 lives and injuring several others.
Among the worst affected is the state’s East Khasi Hills district. Two people lost their lives as their buried under the landslide at Mawlat in Mawkynrew area of East Khasi Hills district when they were on their way back from Shillong.
Four houses were damaged in the landslide, a shop and a dorbar hall also collapsed in the area.
And Heavy rains across region are leading to landslides along highways.
The NH-40 or Shillong-Dawki road was totally cut off at a place near Siatbakon village after landslides triggered by incessant rain.
A vehicle was seen stuck precariously on the road that has been nearly washed away by the mud and rock slip. The persons were evacuated from the vehicle.
Meanwhile, in the wake of the situation, vehicles going to Dawki have been asked to take the Pongtung-Lyngkhat road.
With chance of fresh landslides looming, commuters have also been advised not to take the route at night.
