Prez Murmu’s visit to Meghalaya: Elaborate security arrangements in place

The Meghalaya Police have issued advisories regarding movement of vehicles in Tura and Shillong

The Meghalaya Police is all geared up for President Droupadi Murmu’s 2-day visit to the state beginning Monday. On the first day of her visit President Murmu will visit Tura where she will inaugurate the 5th edition of the Meghalaya Games.

In view of this the West Garo Hills police has issued a press release wherein it has been stated that- vehicular traffic will be halted for 1 hour prior to the arrival of the President at all traffic junctions (Tura).
There will be No Entry of heavy motor vehicles and trucks towards Tura for 24 hours prior to arrival of the President till her departure.

On the other hand, elaborate security arrangements are also in place in Shillong where President Droupadi Murmu will lay the foundation of the Shillong Rope way and address a public gathering at Mawphlang Sacred Groves.

East Khasi Hills SP Sylvester Nongtnger spoke to Northeast Live about the security measures and said, “In connection with the visit of the President to Shillong on 16th we are fully prepared regarding the security arrangements, traffic and so on. We have visited the places several times with the to ensure that everything will go smoothly as planned. We will be deploying at least 9 companies of CAPF including state police also. We will be deploying at least 91 officers and 19 gazetted officers during the visit of the President to Shillong.”

The East Khasi Hills Police has also issued a traffic advisory urging the general public to avoid travelling towards Mawngap and in and around Shillong city unless necessary.

Further, the vehicular traffic will be halted for 30 minutes prior to the arrival of the President on January 16, at all traffic junctions (Shillong).
