NEHU scholar becomes VP of Indian research collective studying the poles

In a proud moment for the North-Eastern Hill University(NEHU), Vivek Kumar, pursuing PhD in its Department of Environmental Studies was elected as the new Vice-President of the Indian Polar Research Network (IPRN). Kumar took the charge as the VP in a virtual ceremony on January 13.

The study of Polar regions is increasingly becoming important due to the climate challenges being faced right now.  The icy cold polar regions of the world significantly influence the global weather patterns and climate as a whole.

As part of his doctoral work Kumar is working on the transport, transformation and environmental fate of selected pollutants in aquatic environments.

The IPRN is a platform for young polar researchers in India to interact, collaborate and network in the field of polar sciences and is a chapter of ‘The Association of Polar Early Scientists (APECS), based in Norway.

The Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS) is an international and interdisciplinary organization for undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, early career faculty members, early career professionals, educators and others with interests in Polar and Alpine regions and the wider cryosphere(frozen parts of Earth).
