NEET exam row: Irregularities should not have happened, Meghalaya minister Paul Lyngdoh

The Meghalaya government, reacting to the irregularities surrounding the conduct of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) in the state, has stated that the irregularities should not have taken place.

According to Lyngdoh such a situation leads to the creation of an undue impact in the psyche of the students.

Cabinet minister Paul Lyngdoh, speaking on the issues said that the education department will take a call on this immediately. The minister’s statement comes after the Khasi Students’ Union and the Jaintia Students Union (JSU) in West Jaintia Hills demanded for re-examination.

Briefing newspersons, Paul Lyngdoh said, “I think it is a valid demand and I am sure the Education Department will take a call on this immediately. But certainly the lapses should not have happened. It has cause d a lots of pyschological and undue mental pressure on the candidates.”

Earlier on Monday, the Khasi Students’ Union West Jaintia Hills Unit and Jaintia Students’ Union had submitted a Joint Petition to Education Minister Rakkam Sangma, regarding alleged discrepancies in the NEET exams conducted on May 5th at St. Mary Mazzarello in Jowai.

On Wednesday, Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma had informed that his government has already reached out to the National Testing Agency (NTA) with regard to concerns over National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) examinations conducted in different parts of the state.
