Meghalaya’s 1st Wooden Cart race receives overwhelming response

The event witnessed wooden carts of different shapes, sizes, and designs lined up at the parking bay just before the race.

Meghalaya hosted the first-ever wooden cart race held at the evergreen route at Kharang village in East Khasi Hills District yesterday with hundreds of people participating in the event.

The event was organized by Kharang sport and social welfare club. The race was also part of the commemoration of Meghalaya’s 50th statehood and the club’s 50th anniversary.

The event witnessed wooden carts of different shapes, sizes, and designs lined up at the parking bay just before the race.

Excited youths took to the field to drive their self-designed carts, much to the delight of the bystanders.

Meanwhile, the aim of the race is to revive the dying art of constructing a wooden cart and to promote its usage in modern times.

Alongside the event, the club also organized the state’s first MTB-XCO event called the Khasi Hills Challenge 1.0 which started off with a cycle ride early Saturday morning with 19 cyclists participating in it. The riders had to cover five laps totalling 30 km. The winning cash price was Rs 10,000 and was awarded to Kevin Khyllait.
