The clamour for implementation of ILP in Meghalaya has gained further momentum.
The United Democratic Party (UDP) which is a coalition partner of the NPP in the MDA 2.0 government today said that the party will be soon meeting Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and deliberate on the matter.
UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh informed, “We will be meeting the Chief Minister and try to discuss this issue as to why the same is still being examined now. It has been placed a long ago, this is not a very fresh or new issue. It is a very long pending issue, so we will again discuss with the government on how to pursue this matter to see the light of the day, “the UDP President said.
“We want to see that it is pursued and is responded in a positive way, “Metbah Lyngdoh further said.
It was only yesterday that Meghalaya pressure group Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) had sought response from Chief Minister Conrad Sangma over alleged Centre’s delay in implementing Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state.
HYC President Robert June Kharjahrin speaking to Northeast Live said, “Meeting with the Prime Minister, Home Minister have been held several times but there is concrete outcome again. We want to know on what aspect of ILP the Prime Minister, Home Minister is examining. Is it from the law perspective, or whether it will affect tourism. What aspect the Centre is examining. We would like to know from the Chief Minister as to what are the areas of concern that the Centre has.”
On August 8, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and his cabinet colleagues along with Speaker Thomas A Sangma had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital and discussed several important matter pertaining to the state.
Reports stated that the Meghalaya Chief Minister during the meeting had sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention for the implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) as well as inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
