Meghalaya bagged the second place in the Jal Jeevan Mission’s functionality assessment (JJM) at a function held in the Vigyan Bhawan New Delhi yesterday.
President of India Droupadi Murmu presented the award to Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, the State’s Public Health Engineering Minister.
The Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti commemorated Swachh Bharat Diwas (SBD) at Vigyan Bhawan yesterday, where President Droupadi Murmu, conferred on the exemplary works done by States and Union Territories.
The functionality assessment of tap connections was conducted by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, through Hindustan Thompson Pvt. Ltd in rural areas of all states and UTs.
This year, It was given under functional assessment under the 60% coverage category.
The state of Tamil Nadu topped the list while, Puducherry and Goa took first and second place above the 60% coverage category, respectively.
The President in her speech stated that the Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin is a behavior-change movement.
The president further stated that in addition to cleanliness, the Government of India is working to provide safe drinking water to every household. The JJM has set the goal of providing consistent and high-quality drinking water to every household by 2024.
