Syiem also demanded for the proper implementation of MRSSA in later and spirit.

Amidst pressure groups voluntarily putting up check gates, checking documents and work permits of non-local workers in Meghalaya, Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem on Saturday said that ILP is the need of the hour.

“It is a fact that Inner Line Permit is the need of the hour. It is important to have ILP in our state to check the illegal entry and also, there has to be proper record of those who enter the state legally. When they enter and when they exit the state,” Mayralborn Syiem told Northeast Live.

Mentioning the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA), the MLA said that certain changes have been made in this Act and the amended MRSSA Bill 2021 with the changes, is waiting for the Governor’s ascent.

“I urge the government to ensure that the amended MRSS Bill 2021 becomes an Act. Proper implementation of MRSSA will curb entry of illegal people and checks and balances will be in place to check illegal entry of and labourer and tourists”, Syiem said.
