Sam Pamei, Planning Adviser at NEC said that NEC is committed to working closely with the police throughout the inquiry.

The North Eastern Council (NEC) has initiated disciplinary action against its employee, Shambhu Sharma (58) who is currently in judicial custody for allegedly molesting a 21-year-old female co-worker.

Sam Pamei, Planning Adviser at NEC, informed Northeast Live that while the legal system is handling the criminal case against Sharma, the NEC is committed to working closely with the police throughout the inquiry.

“NEC condemned the incident. We are in support of the victim. An FIR has been filed with the police in this regard and we will give our full cooperation in the investigation. We are taking disciplinary action against the accused. We have constituted a committee to look into this, and we will follow their recommendations for corrective action,” said Pamei.

The incident reportedly occurred on August 19, 2024, leading to Sharma’s arrest after the victim filed a complaint at the Laitumkhrah Police Station. Sharma has since been placed under judicial custody and charged under sections 127(2), 74, and 64(2)(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including wrongful confinement, assault with intent to outrage a woman’s modesty, and rape.

Sources revealed that the incident occurred after the accused asked the victim to accompany him to a bank for work-related tasks, as she was assigned to assist him.

Following the bank visit, Sharma allegedly took the victim to his quarter under the pretext of retrieving his tiffin. Once they arrived, he invited her inside and allegedly forced himself on her.
