Meghalaya Govt Imposes Night Curfew Along Bangladesh Border

In light of the current law and order situation in Bangladesh, Meghalaya Government on Monday imposed night curfew with effect from today along the Indo-Bangladesh border.
After chairing a meeting with the Border Security Force officials, DGP, Chief Secretary and state home department officials on Monday, Deputy Chief MinisterI in-charge Home Prestone Tynsong said the curfew will be implemented from 6 pm to 6 am within 200 metres inside Indian Territory till the situation improves.
The curfew will start immediately from tonight, Tynsong said.
He also informed that as many as 9 battalions of the BSF are guarding the Indian territory in the Meghalaya sector and the Centre is ready to send more paramilitary forces in the near future.
He also stated that the state police will assist the BSF to ensure tranquility in border.
Tynsong held a meet with DIG BSF (operation), Director General of Police Meghalaya, Idashisha Nongrang, Chief Secretary DP Wahlang and officials from the Home Department.
Meanwhile, BSF on Monday put the India-Bangladesh border on high alert for the next 48 hours.
Bangladesh and Meghalaya share a 442 km border, thus the state government wants to prevent any spill-over effects.
Besides Meghalaya, Tripura also shares a total of 856 kilometres of border with Bangladesh, along with Assam (262 km), Mizoram (318 km) and West Bengal (2,217 km).
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday resigned and fled the country, amid massive protests against her government that claimed more than 106 lives in the last two days.
