The more than 140 km road which starts from Tura and ends at Sign Board near the border of Assam lays neglected for a long time.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Wednesday inspected the dilapidated Agia, Medhipara, Phulbari, and Tura roads between Garobadha and Rajabala to take stock of the situation.

Notably, the AMPT road, which is one of the busiest roads in Garo Hills, continues to be a nightmare for residents that make daily commutes through the route.

The more than 140 km road which starts from Tura and ends at Sign Board near the border of Assam lays neglected for a long time.

Significantly, the road is used by lakhs of commuters and travelers daily, connecting important towns of Assam’s Mankachar, Hatsingimari, and Meghalaya’s Tura, Phulbari, and Tikrikilla.

Meanwhile, after inspecting the road, Chief Minister Sangma, cited that the road is a very important economic corridor for the entire plain belt area.

Sangma further stated that an amount of over Rs 50 crores have been sanctioned through the Nesids scheme of the donor ministry.

Sangma also added that the tender has already been floated and the work for the construction of the road will commence likely by September and by the end of the working season a large amount of the road construction will be completed.

It may be mentioned that currently, the section between Tura to Garobadha is easily navigable while the section between Sign Board to Nidanpur is being re-laid.

Earlier the Court, upon hearing complaints made by residents of the area, intervened and directed that the road reconstruction of the dilapidated sections be undertaken under its supervision.
