Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma directs NHIDCL to repair Shillong-Dawki road at the earliest

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has directed the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to repair the Shillong-Dawki road at the earliest.
The Meghalaya Chief Minister in a meeting with the NHIDCL officials asked the agency to begin work as soon as possible.

The Shillong-Dawki road project, intended to enhance connectivity, is currently facing uncertainty, casting shadow over its timeline and successful completion. Although connected through road, but one has to pass through long stretches of bad roads that has often troubled the commuters, who are the locals and mostly tourists.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma speaking to Northeast Live said, “The Shillong-Dawki road under the NHIDCL as you are aware that some parts of the road are in pretty bad condition. The Phase 4 which is more closer to Dawki that repair should start immediately so the nHIDCL has given us confirmation that they will be starting the repairing work within a few days time. We have ensured that the quality is maintained for the repair. But as you are aware that while the repair does take place, the construction also is going side by side. So when repair starts for the season immediately the construction in other parts also will start at the same time. The first package has been allotted already. The contractor to whom the work is allotted, we hope that the person will be starting the work soon. He has mobilized some macinery and some manpower and we expect that in the next one week or 10 days more machinery and manpower will be mobilized, so that the first sector from Umshyrpi to Upper Shillong 7th Mile and beyond, the work starts soon.

Because certain sections were not reparied and were in bad condition, so the meeting today was specifically to ensure that those repairs are done. The second part as I said that the different packages given to different contractors, we want the contractors to start working and mobilizing as soon as possible. So the meeting was done really for that purpose.”

Known for the pristine beauty of the Dawki river closely attached to the border of India and Bangladesh, Dawki is almost 100 km away from Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya.
