Meghalaya cabinet approves EWS certificates for unreserved category

In addition, the state cabinet also approved a 98 million dollar externally aided project for improving tourism infrastructure in Meghalaya.

Meghalaya Cabinet has approved guidelines for the issuance of income and asset certificates to the economically weaker sections of the state for reservation in Central Govt institutions.

Clarifying that this reservation is only available to those who are not covered by SC, ST, and OBC reservations, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma pointed out that a majority of the population in the state will not be covered under this decision.

In addition, the state cabinet also approved a 98 million dollar externally aided project for improving tourism infrastructure in Meghalaya.

The project is being funded by the New Development Bank.  The project titled Meghalaya Eco-Tourism Infrastructure Development Project will aim to improve tourist infrastructure at popular destinations across the state.

The CM further informed that the project will be related to eco-tourism projects like landscaping and building of tourism amenities in different locations of the state.

Meanwhile, the project will look at different cultural aspects and how to improve the infrastructure around those areas.

The cabinet also approved the Office Memorandum (OM) which is the guidelines for the issuance of income and assets certificates for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) in the state of Meghalaya.

The Chief Minister informed that the OM was issued by the government of India but the state government had not issued the OMs in reference to that.

The approval of the OM by the Cabinet is basically for reservation for EWS in civil posts and services in government of India offices and admission in educational institutions which are central institutions.

Sangma informed that those persons who are not covered under the existing schemes of reservation like for SCs/STs and the Socially and Educationally backward classes.
