The Meghalaya Police has taken suo moto cognizance of the bomb threat email sent to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma that bombs will go off every single week starting from May 1.
Speaking to Northeast Live the acting DGP of Meghalaya Idashisa Nongrang said that the matter is being dealt with all seriousness.
He further informed that a case has been registered and they also have initiated a probe regarding the incident.
Earlier, an email threatening CM Conrad K Sangma and to blow up educational institutions in the state including the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) in Shillong was reportedly sent by an alleged member of a terror outfit.
The e-mail was received by a media house in Shillong a few days ago and the police have launched a search to net those behind it.
The sender of the e-mail has allegedly identified himself as an “armed cadre” of a terror outfit and claimed it was sent in “retaliation” against the dearth of jobs in the state.
The e-mail threatened that “bombs will go off every single week starting 1st May 2022. It also demanded the release of former MLA Julius Dorphang who is in jail after being convicted of raping a minor.
Dorphang, who was an erstwhile chairman of the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council, had committed the crime when he was an MLA.
