Meghalaya: BJP demands removal of West Garo Hills SP, DC

Scores of BJP workers demonstrated outside the party office against the alleged inhuman treatment of party’s state vice president Bernard Marak who is currently in 8-day police custody for allegedly running a prostitution racket at his farmhouse in the outskirts of Tura town.
In a release issued, the BJP’s Tura unit alleged that the actions taken by the SP and DC Tura has created a sense of fear and uncertainty among the party karyakartas and supporters across Garo Hills. The BJP release added that the party karyakartas in Tura city are in constant fear of facing police atrocities as they are allegedly being threatened of being jailed.
The Tura BJP also sought the intervention of the Meghalaya Governor and the party’s central leadership into the situation.
It may be mentioned that the Meghalaya BJP had accused the Tura police of harassing party karyakartas terming the move as politically motivated.
Tura MDC and state BJP vice president Bernard Marak who was absconding after the raid on his farmhouse was arrested from UP’s Hapur and later remanded to 8-day police custody.
