Meghalaya: 31 UDP leaders resign en masse ahead of LS polls, likely to join NPP

The development might impact the election outcome of UDP-HSPDP’s LS candidate Robert J Kharjahrin

In a major setback for the United Democratic Party just ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, as many as 31 leaders from Ri Bhoi district have quit the party.

Some of the prominent names amongst those who resigned include the Working President of UDP State Wing and Ri Bhoi District Unit Donbok Khymdeit, Chief Adviser Raphael Massar, Adviser Rangkynsai R Makdoh, Joint Secretary Women’s Wing Queen Mary Rymbai, Auditor Biolkingstar Tmung, leaders of the youth wing, executive members besides others.

The timing of the resignation is expected to affect the electoral prospects of Robertjune Kharjahrin, the Regional Democratic Alliance (the alliance between UDP and HSPDP) candidate for the Shillong Parliamentary seat.

Sources informed that they are likely to join the NPP. However, an official confirmation into this is still awaited.
