MDA 2.0 government to introduce a bill to repeal the Meghalaya Regulation of Gaming Act 2021

The MDA 2.0 government is set to introduce a bill in the upcoming assembly session to repeal the Meghalaya Regulation of Gaming Act 2021. Earlier the government had introduced an ordinance to repeal the gaming act during the tenure of the last government under CM Conrad Sangma. The gaming act, which was introduced in 2021, is being taken back by the government in the face of stiff opposition from churches and social organisations. The act sought to promote the setting up of casinos and gaming parlours in the state to promote tourism and generate revenue.
