Former Meghalaya CM J D Rymbai has passed away today casting a pall of gloom on the state.

Condoling the demise of Rymbai, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma took to Twitter saying and wrote, “Pained to learn about the demise of former CM of our State, Shri J D Rymbai. Shri Rymbai was a great statesman, adored by people he served. His contribution to the development of our state will always be remembered . may his soul rest in peace”

James Dringwell Rymbai was born in Meghalaya. As per inputs he entered active politics in 1983 and when he successfully contested from the Jirang assembly constituency on a Congress ticket. Even in his first term he became the deputy speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. He became the speaker in 1933. Notably he won three consecutive terms from Jirang. 

Rymbai took over the reins as Chief Minister of Meghalaya between 2006-2007 after dissidence against the then CM D.D. Lapang.
