Health dept. to hold interviews for appointment of MLHPs on Sept 12: Ampareen Lyngdoh

Ampareen Lyngdoh said that the appointments of all 41 candidates, which were held earlier, were put on hold
Amid the controversy over the unfair recruitment process of mid-level health providers (MLHPs), Meghalaya Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh informed that the health department will be again holding interviews for the appointment of MLHPs in Tura, West Garo Hills District, on September 12.
Ampareen Lyngdoh said that the appointments of all 41 candidates, which were held earlier, were put on hold.
Lyngdoh said that the decision was taken to ensure equal opportunity for all.
Speaking on the recent recruitment, Lyngdoh said that the selection process was part of campus placement at NEIGRIHMS and Woodland Hospital.
She maintained that the MLHP is a health provider with a specific qualification. One needs to have a PSC in nursing with a bridge course of 6 months in community medicine or community work under the health department, a Community Health Officer (CHO), or Ayush doctors who also have the required certificate bridge course.
She added that the certificate bridge course runs in specific institutions in Meghalaya—NEIGHRIMS and Woodland Hospital.
Keeping in view of the complaints received from various NGOs, Lyndoh said that the department decided to re-advertise the posts so that equal opportunities are given to all the people of Meghalaya to apply for the job.
“We kind of regret that we overlooked that maybe other people from other institutions could also be having similar qualifications,” She added.
A conglomerate of five social organizations from Garo Hills, accompanied by Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma and Marcuise N. Marak, met Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh.
The organisations alleged that a number of candidates were declared for appointment for the post of MLHP in different parts of Garo Hills, Meghalaya, without any circular regarding the advertisement for the mentioned positions, violating the recruitment procedure.
