Former Meghalaya CM Salseng C. Marak Laid to Rest with Full State Honours

Former Chief Minister of Meghalaya Salseng C. Marak was laid to rest today with full state honours.

Marak died yesterday at the age of 83.

The solemn and somber ceremony took place at the Mini Stadium in Resubelpara, where leaders from across the state gathered to pay their final respects to the veteran politician.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, alongside TMC leader and former CM Mukul Sangma, and Tura Lok Sabha MP Saleng Sangma, led the tributes at the funeral, which was marked by a deep sense of mourning and reverence. Several other top leaders from the state also attended the funeral, reflecting Marak’s lasting impact on Meghalaya’s political landscape.

Salseng C. Marak served as the Chief Minister of Meghalaya from 1993 to 1998, during which he played a significant role in shaping the state’s governance. A prominent legislator from the Resubelpara constituency, Marak last contested and won the seat in 2013.

Sources close to the family informed that Marak had been ill and hospitalized in Tura for the past two weeks. He passed away at around 10 AM yesterday, leaving behind a legacy of dedicated public service.
