Easing traffic in Shillong: Meghalaya Govt to place policy before Cabinet soon, DCM Dhar

The state government is also working on making Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) fully operational at the earliest
Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya and a popular tourist destination is fast losing its sheen as a tourist hotspot because of the nasty traffic snarls. Taking the cognisance of the situation, the state government appears to be working on multiple options including bringing in a policy before the Cabinet suggesting ways to ease the traffic snarls in the city.
“We are trying to regulate on whether there is a need for one-way traffic system or two-way traffic system, or the odd even system. The DC is working on it with the Home Department on how to move forward. The idea is to at least ease the condition for traffic especially at 9 o’clock in the morning and 3’o clock in the evening during school hours. This is the peak time where we face difficulties. We are preparing a policy. We will bring it in the cabinet,” Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, who is also the Urban Affairs minister said.
DCM Dhar also spoke about making the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) fully operational at the earliest for better management of traffic in and around Shillong.
“There are different projects, all of them are in full swing regarding the ICCC. I think by March next it should be completed and we will start implementation. ICCC will be the root control of the surveillance system in the city.“
What is ICCC?
Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) is a crucial component of an Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS). It serves as the central hub for managing traffic on the road network by integrating data from various sources, including traffic sensors, cameras, and weather stations, among others. CCTV cameras and modern equipment will be installed to keep an eye on vehicles plying.
