Centre Closely Monitoring Border With Trouble-Torn Bangladesh; Attempts To Create Instability Will Be Prevented, Says BJP’s Anil Antony in Meghalaya

The Centre is committed to safeguarding the welfare of citizens and will address any emerging issues with the seriousness they deserve

In the wake of ongoing tensions in neighbouring Bangladesh, the BJP-led government at the Centre is closely monitoring the border with the trouble-torn state, and any attempt to create instability will be prevented, informed Anil Antony, BJP in-charge of Meghalaya and Nagaland during a press conference in Shillong today.

“The government is actively monitoring the situation in Bangladesh. There have been numerous reports of attacks on minority communities, particularly Hindus, in various parts of Bangladesh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is aware of this, and the Central government will address it seriously. However, it is still too early to make definitive comments,” Antony said.

Anthony, who was in Shillong for the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, while speaking to the media, reassured that any attempts to create instability in the northeast would be thwarted.

“Currently, both Meghalaya and Nagaland are governed by the NDA. All our borders are closely monitored, and any attempts to create instability will be prevented. The Central government and the Home Ministry are taking sufficient action,” Antony added.

He further assured that the Centre is committed to safeguarding the welfare of citizens and will address any emerging issues with the seriousness they deserve.

It is noteworthy that the four northeastern states sharing borders with Bangladesh have bolstered security measures to prevent any potential influx from the troubled region.

Meghalaya has imposed a night curfew along its 443 km border with Bangladesh. In response to escalating security concerns, Assam, Mizoram, and Tripura have requested the Border Security Force (BSF), Assam Rifles, local police, and other security agencies to enhance vigilance on cross-border movements.
