The inking of the Assam Meghalaya border deal at New Delhi today has not gone down well with many in Meghalaya. Comso chairman Robert June Kharjarin while reacting to the border agreement stated that some areas which should have been under Meghalaya has been handed over to Assam. Kharjahrin expressed disappointment that the government did not consult the traditional heads again before signing the final agreement.

On the other hand local residents of Ri Bhoi gathered at Maikhuli village to register their protest against the move. Former Minister and TMC MLA Zenith Sangma also visited the area, accompanied by Winnerson D Sangma, legislator of Salmanpara Constituency.

 During the visit, Zenith Sangma along with the local residents inspected some parts of Barapathar and Iongkhuli Areas. Zenith Sangma Said the People of this Areas crying for help as some parts of Maukhuli village will be handed over to Assam as per the agreement. The Maikhuli village comes under the Khanapara-Pilangkata disputed area.
