Uttarakhand Avalanche : Body of Meghalaya mountaineer Tiklu Jyrwa recovered

Body of Meghalaya mountaineer Tiklu Jyrwa, who went missing in the Uttarakhand avalanche has been recovered.

Jyrwa, was part of the mountaineering team that was hit by the avalanche on Draupadi Ka Danda-II peak in Uttarkashi on October 4.

It may be mentioned that along with Tiklu Jyrwa, another mountaineer Deepshikha Hazarika from Assam, had also gone missing since October 4.

The body of Deepshikha was also retrieved on Saturday.

35-year old Jyrwa is survived by his wife and children.

As per reports, mortal remains of both the mountaineers will be brought to Guwahati from Dehradun this evening.

Jyrwa anfd Deepshikha were among the 41 trainees of the Uttarkashi-based Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM ) who were hit by an avalanche while trekking on the Draupadi Ka Danda-II peak in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand on October 4.

The death toll from the Uttarkashi avalanche has now risen to 26.

Meanwhile, despite adverse weather conditions, the search for three more missing climbers continues.

According to NIM, 41 people, including 34 trainees and 7 mountaineering instructors, were hit by the avalanche.

The NIM said that the Advanced Mountaineering Course commenced on September 14 at Uttarkashi and the course moved to the mountain on September 23. 

They arrived at the Base Camp on September 5.

The avalanche occurred at a height of 17,000 feet at around 8. 45 am while the team was returning after summiting Draupadi Ka Danda II peak.
