With monsoons over the horizon, people of North Garo Hills, where major portions of the roads are filled with potholes and puddles are expected to face tough times this year too.

Recently, AITC MDC from Rongrong constituency, Rinaldo K Sangma had alleged that not a single repair work has been undertaken since 2018, despite the Chief Minister ‘s assurance to construct new road. The roads in main Resubelpara itself are filled with potholes and over these past years no proper repair has been done. The TMC MDC recently in a press statement had also criticised Deputy Speaker Timothy D Shira for the failure of the State Government to provide better road infrastructure and communication for the people of Resubelpara constituency.

Reacting to this, NPP legislator from North Garo Hills, Rupert M. Momin has denied the allegations of the opposition TMC MDC and said though the district has few bad roads but the state Government is slowly developing the road infrastructure in the North Garo Hills district.

Momin said, “So far in my constituency, there is not much bad road condition. Almost all villages are motorable except one or two. In North Garo, there are bad roads because for a long time the district is not much developed, but now we are developing slowly. Since in Meghalaya also lots of unconnected villages are there, but after 2018 (NPP assuming power) we are doing our best to construct roads, school buildings etc.

Yes in some areas it is bad, but we cannot assume that Resubelpara is neglected and our Deputy Speaker is neglected. We have a good road from Bajengdoba to Damra. That is one of the best road in North Garo Hills. There are some areas that we are constructing. We have proposed some new road also.”

Momin further responding when asked about the bad road conditions in Resubelpara said, “Last time we spoke to our CM regarding main town of Resubelpara, that some road has to be constructed on the way to DC office, SP office that are in the urban setup. It is under consideration and very soon it will be taken up. Recently I spoke to Executive Engineer also and he said that it (works) will be taken up very soon.”
