Meghalaya Roster system: Commtt to allow VPP to share its views on reservation policy

The meeting was attended by representaives of all the political parties except the VPP which is continuing with its hunger strike demanding review of the state Reservation Policy.

The Meghalaya government constituted committee to discuss the Roster system has decided that it would request the government for allowing the committee to give a chance to the Voice of People’s Party (VPP) to express its views and discuss the job reservation policy.
To deliberate on this, the Committee headed by Meghalaya health minister Ampareen Lyngdoh held a meeting today and unanimously decided on this. The meeting was attended by representaives of all the political parties except the VPP which is continuing with its hunger strike demanding review of the state Reservation Policy.
Briefing newspersons after the meeting Apareen Lyngdoh said, “We have felt it fit to send a proposal to the government to allow this committee to also give a patient hearing to the points of view of one main political party that is not part of our discussions. Otherwise, the entire purpose of our meeting will not be inclusive.”
Lyngdoh further informed that the committee would also send a recommendation to the government for allowing all other political parties also to express their viewpoints.
The committee will be meeting again on May 31 to give an opportunity to all parties to bring forward suggestions and observations.
Speaking about today’s meeting, Ampareen Lyngdoh said, “We are pleased to inform the public that there was an unanimous agreement of the proposed roster as was discussed by all politcal parties. It is important for all of us to have an inclusive approach wherein all members of all political parties should be part of the deliberation on the roster system. Now, we are satisfied with the proposed Roster.”
On May 26, Ampareen Lyngdoh met protesting VPP President Ardent M Basaiawmoit, and had urged him to call off the indefinite hunger strike and discuss the Roster System. But the VPP leader insisted on a review of the Reservation Policy instead.
